ASIAN STORES IN COVENTRY

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

ˆAs an Indonesian myself, I can't live without Indomie--ˆthe most well-known, the prominent, Indonesian instant noodles. Thus, besides packing packs of it in my suitcase, I need to find the rest of them where I live, so I would never run out of them! And where else do you think I can find them? Most obviously, Asian stores. So here are my favourite Asian stores in Coventry.

The first step to feeling at home in a foreign place is by cooking your traditional dish, but to do so, it takes some ingredients that sometimes are just not available anywhere. However, thanks to the incredible asian aunties and uncles out there, I could get many of the ingredients that I need to make Indonesian dishes! Though ngl asian stores are quite a bit pricier than other stores, if it's for the good goods?

Anyway, I found a lot of asian stores here and there, here are some of my go-to ones:

Wah Yan Yong Oriental Food Specialist

This one is the biggest one in Coventry that I've ever visited and what you will find here is compelling. Located in the heart of the city centre, it's so hard not to see this one. The front door is quite tall with a "post office" sign in front of it. They have varieties of instant noodles, drinks, veggies, snacks, even home appliances. I went here as soon as I arrived in Coventry, so I purchased most of my home stuff from this place too (which now that I visited more places I wish I had gone to different store because--to be fair, it's pretty pricey here).

China Mini Market

This one has got to be the one I come to THE MOST. My only reason is that they have so many Indonesian instant condiments and they have sambal too! I often come here for the spices and whenever I want to buy some rice, but I usually get out with more than I initially come for which is normal!🤫

I once wanted to get my 3kg sushi rice here, but it was out of stock, and the ones available is only 1kg and 4kg ones, so guess what the auntie did? She actually opened the whole package of 4kg ones and hand-handled my 3kg rice by pouring some of it into the container and selling me that separately. Idk if she usually does that, but it's very convenient to me and I left the store feeling very satisfied✨.

CV Mart

Despite being the closest one to my place, I've barely visited this one, and that's only for one reason; they don't take care if it's for purchase under £10. And---who carries cash these days? Not me! Moreover, they have numerous kinds of snacks as well and they often give you freebies too, which to me is very good customer service! Though I hope they would let me get my shin ramyun with a card next time 😮‍💨

Top Express

This one is basically the Asian version of TESCO / Sainsbury's, there are few branches of Top Express all across Coventry and it's very convenient to purchase some stuff from there. Just like the rest of them, they have snacks, noodles, drinks and veggies that are all imported from Asian countries. Even though I don't really go here, they have some stuff that I like and if you haven't tried any of Asian snacks, here you can find some that are popular back in Asian countries that you will definitely love.

So, if you're in Coventry and you're looking for some asian spices or ingredients, you can try looking for them in these Asian stores! Hope you find what you're looking for and tell me what do you think of them down below:)
